Earlier this year it was revealed to privateparts.org that Ticonderoga's town police was using surveillance cameras to investigate crimes occurring in the downtown area. To better understand the pervasiveness of this surveillance throughout the town and to provide transparency owed to the good people of Ticonderoga a FOIL request was made asking the department to disclose the entirety of their surveillance camera network to the public.
The town's official response unveiled a total of six surveillance cameras lacing Montcalm Street and its back-alley. The surveillance network has already cost local taxpayers nearly $1200 this year alone and at minimum requires $99 every quarter for upkeep.
